This segment from the November 28, 2008, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Donna LaFleur’s visit to “The Sky is Gray: Visual Works Inspired by Ernest Gaines” exhibit at the LSU Gallery of Art in the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge. Gaines, a native of Pointe Coupee Parish, is the author of several novels, including “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman” and “A Lesson Before Dying.” LaFleur talks to two of the artists participating in the exhibit, June Baranco-Gumbel and Leslie Charleville, about the inspirations for their paintings.
