This segment from the December 5, 2008, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features the first part of Shauna Sanford’s report on “Louisiana Health First,” Governor Bobby Jindal’s proposed plan to change the state’s Medicaid system from fee-for-service to managed care. Sanford interviews Secretary Alan Levine of the Department of Health and Hospitals about the need for Medicaid reform in order to prevent fraudulent claims and unnecessary hospital visits, improving chronic disease management and the overall health care of Medicaid patients, and strengthening the Charity Hospital system. She also talks to State Representatives Rickey Hardy, Pat Smith, Reed Henderson, and Kay Katz about the proposed plan.
