Description
This segment from the March 13, 2009, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s interview with Orrin C. Hudson during his visit to Park Ridge Elementary School in Baker, Louisiana. Hudson is a former Alabama state trooper who visits schools throughout the United States to teach students chess. He discusses his belief that teaching students the game of chess can also teach students important life lessons and instill the belief that learning is fun. Whinham also talks to Park Ridge Principal Dave Carter, Jr. about the positive student response to Hudson’s visit and his work in improving the test scores of his students.
