Description
This segment from the April 17, 2009, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford’s interview with retired Lieutenant General Russel Honore, the commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, the unit responsible for coordinating military relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He is also the author of “Survival: How Being Prepared Can Keep You and Your Family Safe.” Honore discusses: his reaction to seeing the people lined up at the Superdome waiting to be evacuated after Hurricane Katrina; identifying with the poor people left behind in New Orleans; his view that there are too many small local governments that create too much bureaucracy during an emergency; his idea of establishing regional governments in lieu of individual parish governments; his view that governors need a bigger role in the recovery effort after a hurricane, instead of blaming FEMA when things are not accomplished; and his hurricane preparedness advice. Hosts: Charlie Whinham and Shauna Sanford
