Description
This segment from the April 24, 2009, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit to the 2009 ArtBreak Festival in Shreveport, the largest student art festival in the South. He visits a variety of the student art stations, including one dedicated to Clementine Hunter, and listens in on the “ArtBreak Idol” singing competition. He also talks to Walter Lee of the State Board of Education, Caddo Parish art teachers Margaret Holt and Maria Toma, Bossier Parish School Superintendent Ken Kruithof, ArtBreak Director Julia Foley, and Caddo Parish Art Supervisor Henry Price about the importance of the festival and arts education.
