Description
This segment from the May 1, 2009, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit to the annual gala for the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts (LSMSA) at the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge. LSMSA is a residential public high school located in Natchitoches. The gala features performances from students in the visual and performing arts, including voice, dance, instrumentals, and theater. Whinham also interviews Dr. Patrick Widhalm, the Executive Director of LSMSA, Kate Riley, the Director of Theater, Dr. Clayton Delery, the Chairman of Creative and Performing Arts, and students Mason Joiner, Kyle Richard, and Anna Tan about the importance of the gala and the unique opportunity for LSMSA students to engage in cross-disciplinary studies in math, science and the arts without having to specialize in only one area of study.
