This segment from the June 19, 2009, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford’s recap of the events at the eighth week of the 2009 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature, including: a news conference with Governor Bobby Jindal discussing his veto of three portions of the state budget; a news conference with State Representative Jim Fannin and Speaker of the House Jim Tucker responding to Governor Jindal’s comments on the budget; State Senator Dale Erdy testifying on the need to study hiring security guards in places of worship as a result of recent church shootings; State Senator Cheryl Gray Evans, Judge Kathleen Richey and attorney Pete Adams testifying on a bill creating a “Children’s Bill of Rights” for children accused of or convicted of a crime; State Representative Kevin Pearson and several dentists testifying on Pearson’s bill establishing guidelines for mobile dental clinics that operate in schools; State Representative John LaBruzzo testifying on a bill creating tax credits for businesses that produce the technology that allows individuals and businesses to make use of wind energy and solar energy; and State Representative Regina Barrow discussing the creation a clearinghouse to handle all of the “green” or environmental bills for the 2010 Legislative Session.
