Description
This segment from the July 10, 2009, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit to the Poverty Point State Historic Site in West Carroll Parish, the home of an ancient earthworks built by the Poverty Point culture of Native Americans more than 3,500 years ago. Whinham tours the site with park manager David Griffing and talks about the mystery surrounding the Poverty Point culture. He also talks to Diana Greenlee, a University of Louisiana at Monroe archaeologist, and Alisha Wright, the Poverty Point Collections Manager, about the archaeological dig taking place at the site.
