This segment from the May 28, 2010, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features an update on the ongoing BP Oil Spill. Shauna Sanford visits Cat Island near Terrebonne Parish, a nesting ground for thousands of brown pelicans. She talks to Maura Wood and Dr. Douglas Inkley of the National Wildlife Federation about the effect of the oil and chemical dispersants on the health of the brown pelicans, a species that was recently removed from the endangered species list. She also attends a town hall meeting in Plaquemines Parish, where Parish President Billy Nungesser tells the crowd that he will proceed with building sand berms to protect the coast with or without federal approval. Captain Ed Stanton of the United States Coast Guard also discusses the use of chemical dispersants with a concerned fisherman. Host: Charlie Whinham
