This segment from the June 4, 2010, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s interview with Opelousas attorney Craig Morrow on the legal battles involved with the BP Oil Spill. Morrow represents several clients who have not yet received their claims checks from BP. He discusses: BP’s attempts to force claimants to sign away their rights to participate in a class action lawsuit against the company; BP’s attempt to have the upcoming class action lawsuit moved to the federal court in Houston; the upcoming hearing to decide the jurisdiction of the lawsuit; the need for Congress to update maritime law; and how long the litigation might last.
