This segment from the August 27, 2010, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit to the town of Cameron in Cameron Parish to assess the rebuilding efforts five years after Hurricane Rita and two years after Hurricane Ike. During his visit, Whinham interviews: Cameron Parish Sheriff Theos Duhon about the slow rebuilding efforts; Thaunia “G.G” Hardie, the owner of G.G.’s Café, about her frustrations with living in a camper and not being able to elevate her business; Cameron Parish Superintendent Stephanie Rodrigue about the new South Cameron High School, which currently houses pre-K through 12th grade students; Tim Dupont of the South Cameron Memorial Hospital about his hopes that more residents will return since the hospital has been rebuilt; and Belinda Miltenberger of Cameron Fisheries about the difficulty in finding employees and her hopes to rebuild her home.
