This segment from the November 5, 2010, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Al Godoy’s report on the reopening of the historic Jackson Barracks in New Orleans, the headquarters of the Louisiana National Guard, after it was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. Godoy interviews: Jerry Lathan, the CEO of The Lathan Company; Colonel Tim Chastain, the Jackson Barracks Post Commander; retired Major General Hunt Downer of the Louisiana National Guard; Z. Ames Yeates, the project architect; and John Sean Patrick Kelly, a supervisor on the reconstruction project. They discuss: the history of Jackson Barracks; the damage it sustained due to flooding from Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita; and the challenge of restoring buildings that were originally built in 1835.
