This segment from the March 18, 2011, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Sue Lincoln’s report on the upcoming LEAP tests and “Grand Ideas from Within,” a program used at schools in East Feliciana Parish and West Feliciana Parish to provide students with mindfulness training through breathing exercises and guided imagery. She interviews: Scott Norton, the Assistant State Superintendent for Student Performance, on the recent LEAP test results; School Superintendent Joseph Beachchamp, Jr. of East Feliciana Parish on the “Grand Ideas from Within” program helping students with their stress levels; co-founder Joan Stewart on her inspiration for the program; Cindy Perret, the Assistant Principal at East Feliciana Ninth Grade Academy, on the effectiveness of the program in the areas of student performance and student behavior; and students Robert Guerrero, Trinity George, Jamarcus Byrd, and Jasmine Beecham on their positive experience with the program.
