This segment from the July 15, 2011, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Jeremy Alford’s report on the creation of an oil well capping system by the Houston-based Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC), a non-profit organization created by ten major oil companies that operate in the Gulf of Mexico. This report includes: Martin W. Massey of MWCC discussing the capping system at a meeting of the Ocean Energy Safety Advisory Committee (OESAC) in New Orleans; OESAC member Lois N. Epstein questioning Massey on why the system was not built prior to the 2010 BP Oil Spill; and an interview with Chris John of the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association on his hopes that MWCC will place one of the capping systems in Louisiana.
