This segment from the December 23, 2011, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features the second part of Sue Lincoln’s report on Teach for America in Louisiana, a program where recent college graduates agree to teach for two years in struggling school districts. Lincoln visits Bunkie Elementary School and St. Helena Elementary School in Greensburg, two rural schools that utilize Teach for America corps members. She interviews three Teach for America participants, Katie Vahle (Bunkie), Josh Saunders (St. Helena), and Anna Field (St. Helena), who discuss their experiences in the classroom. Lincoln also interviews their principals, Dexter Compton (Bunkie) and Reginald Douglas (St. Helena), who discuss the value of having Teach for America corps members as a part of their faculty.
