Description
This segment from the February 24, 2012, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Donna LaFleur’s visit to BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo. She talks to Jennifer Shields, the education curator, about the zoo’s new Realm of the Tiger exhibit and the rare birth of a baby black rhinoceros in 2009. She also speaks to Sam Winslow, the assistant zoo director, and Phillip Frost, the zoo director, about the zoo’s participation in species survival plans for threatened and endangered animal species. LaFleur also sits in with Dr. Gordon Pirie, the zoo’s veterinarian, and students from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine as they perform annual exams on the spider monkeys.
