Description
This segment from the August 17, 2012, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford’s report on the formation of the Budget Reform Campaign by the Fiscal Hawks in the Louisiana Legislature. Sanford reports that the Fiscal Hawks are a group of Republicans and an Independent that disagree with the Jindal Administration’s use of one-time money to pay for recurring expenses within the state budget. She interviews State Representative Jerome Richard, a member of the Fiscal Hawks, who discusses their goal of slowing down the budget process, protecting the funding for health care and higher education, and eliminating government waste. Sanford also leads an in-studio interview with State Representatives Simone Champagne and Brett Geymann, two other members of the Fiscal Hawks. They discuss: the formation of the Budget Reform Campaign; their work in identifying efficiencies within state government; the ongoing Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget hearings with state agencies; and their plans to hold meetings around the state.
