Description
This segment from the September 7, 2012, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s report on the Hurricane Isaac recovery efforts in Laplace and Plaquemines Parish. In Laplace, Whinham interviews Greg Huet as he cleans up his flooded home. Huet discusses the flooding in his neighborhood, rescuing his neighbors with his boat following the storm, and the clean-up effort. Whinham then tours the flooding and damage in Plaquemines Parish, including dead cattle and horses. He also interviews Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, who discusses the high number of dead cattle, the possibility that the parish experienced flooding because of the new levee system in New Orleans, and the need to address the gap in federal levee protection in Plaquemines Parish.
