Sanford reports that the LSU System plans to lay-off 1,500 employees. This report includes footage of people protesting the closure of Southeast Hospital in Mandeville. Sanford also interviews Dr. Paul Perkowski, a vascular surgeon and a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society. He discusses: his concern over the possible lack of training positions available to medical students and doctors in the state; the impact of the closures and reduced services on both insured and uninsured patients; and physicians’ concerns over the lack of outpatient clinics for uninsured patients.
