Description
This segment from the December 7, 2012, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Sue Lincoln’s report on the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education’s (BESE) approval of a framework for implementing the unified oversight of all pre-kindergarten programs in the state. Lincoln reports that the Louisiana Early Childhood Education Act requires the standardized testing of three and four year olds, a grading system for all pre-k programs, and a determination of the kindergarten readiness for all students. This report includes highlights from a recent meeting of the BESE Board, including comments by State Superintendent of Education John White and BESE Board member Chas Roemer, as well as testimony by LSU Education student Rachel Ginn, Loretta Holland of the Volunteers of America, and daycare provider Rachelle Wilcox. Lincoln also interviews Wyatt Graves, the president of the Louisiana Childcare Association. Host: Shauna Sanford
