These stories include: Reverend Melvin Rushing and Dr. Jule Assercq of Together Louisiana and State Senator Fred Mills speaking at a rally on the steps of the State Capitol urging Governor Bobby Jindal to start negotiations on a plan to expand Medicaid benefits in Louisiana; State Representatives Barbara Norton and Katrina Jackson testifying on their bill expanding Medicaid eligibility based on the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare); State Representatives Lance Harris, A.B. Franklin, and Kenneth Havard expressing their concerns about the bill; Interim Secretary Kathy Kliebert of the Department of Health and Hospitals testifying against the bill; State Senator Danny Martiny questioning State Senator Bodi White on his bill preventing anyone who suspects and reports suspicious behavior from being sued; and State Representative Harold Ritchie, Tonia Moore of the Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco Free Living, and Rene Gerard of Piper’s Haven testifying on Ritchie’s bill raising the tax on cigarettes and other tobacco products.
