This segment from the July 5, 2013, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit to the grand opening of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum in Natchitoches. Whinham reports on the 2013 induction class into the Hall of Fame, including former LSU basketball player Shaquille O’Neal and professional tennis player Chanda Rubin. He also talks to Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne about Louisiana’s passion for sports, his donation of his childhood Pete Maravich scrapbook to the museum, and the impact of the new museums on Natchitoches. Lastly, Whinham also speaks to Doug Ireland of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association about the formation of the Hall of Fame in the 1950s and Mark Tullos, the director of the Louisiana State Museum, about the collections available at the Northwest Louisiana History Museum.
