Description
This segment from the August 1, 2014, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford’s in-studio interview with Ken Campbell, the president of the Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO), and Chas Roemer, the president of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE). They discuss: BAEO’s decision to fund a lawsuit against Governor Bobby Jindal over Common Core on behalf of concerned parents, teachers, and schools; BESE’s decision to join the BAEO lawsuit because it relates to the constitutional authority of BESE to set educational policy in the state and the question of who gets to determine which Common Core assessment tests will be used; and the Jindal Administration’s assertion that the BESE Board did not follow state procurement law in entering into an agreement with PARCC to administer the Common Core assessments. This segment also includes highlights from a recent BESE Board meeting on the Common Core controversy.
