This segment from the April 24, 2015, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford’s report on the five year anniversary of the BP Oil Spill. She interviews: Dr. Ed Overton, a professor emeritus of environmental sciences at LSU; Matt Rota of the Gulf Restoration Network; and Kyle Graham, the executive director of the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. They discuss: the state of the coastal environment; what we still don’t know about the long-term environmental impact of the oil spill; the impact of the spill on wildlife; the unknown consequences of the interaction between the oil and the dispersants used in the clean-up; how much oil remains; and the state’s difficulty in working with BP.
