Description

This segment from the September 11, 2015, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit to Avery Island, Louisiana. Whinham tours the Tabasco Pepper Sauce Factory with Tony Simmons, the president and CEO of the McIlhenny Company, and John Simmons, the Vice President of Agriculture for the McIlhenny Company. He also visits Jungle Gardens, the 170-acre wildlife sanctuary created by E.A. McIlhenny in 1895 to preserve the endangered snowy egrets. Lastly, Whinham interviews Shane K. Bernard, the McIlhenny Company historian, who discusses the history and significance of Jungle Gardens.
