This segment from the June 24, 2016, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Kevin Gautreaux’s report on Louisiana’s working poor. He reports that 40% of Louisiana’s residents live below or just above the federal poverty line. He interviews: Larose Taylor, a single mother working two minimum wage jobs; Sarah Berthelot of the Louisiana Association of United Ways on their recent designation of the working poor as “Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed”, or ALICE, in a recent report; Jan Moller of the Louisiana Budget Project on the need for the state to raise the minimum wage; and Pat Felder of Felder’s Collision Parts on the negative impact of increasing the minimum wage on small businesses.
