This segment from the September 2, 2016, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producers Gary Allen and Kevin Gautreaux’s report on the schools impacted by the historic flooding in south Louisiana. They visit Denham Springs Elementary School in Livingston Parish and Glen Oaks Park Elementary School in East Baton Rouge Parish to survey the flood damage. They interview Kathryn Girlinghouse, Caroline Swan, Betsy Corley, and Tiffany Spears at Denham Springs Elementary School, as well as Tonya Bethley, RuShonda Moore, Jamie Johnson, Brittany Dyer, Doris Trotter, and Amechie Trahan at Glen Oaks Park Elementary School. These teachers and school administrators discuss the overwhelming flood damage at their schools, the school supplies that they have lost, and how they plan to help their students cope with the disaster.
