This segment from the February 1, 2019, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Natasha Williams’ report on the state’s efforts to reduce domestic violence in Louisiana. She reports that Louisiana has the second highest number of domestic violence deaths in the nation. She interviews Monica Alfred, the community outreach and education director with the Iris Domestic Violence Center in Baton Rouge, who discusses: being a survivor of domestic violence; the center’s work with domestic violence survivors; a new law requiring people with protective orders against them to transfer their guns to law enforcement; their work in educating the public about domestic violence warning signs; and the work of the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
