This segment from the March 13, 2020, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Andre Moreau and Natasha Williams’ update on the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. They first present highlights of Governor John Bel Edwards’ March 12th press conference with United States Surgeon General Jerome Adams, where Governor Edwards declared a public health emergency in Louisiana. Next, Moreau interviews Jeanne Smith, an LPB employee, about her struggle to return home from her vacation in Italy due to growing travel restrictions. Moreau then interviews Dr. Tatiana Saavedra, an infectious disease specialist at the Baton Rouge Clinic, who discusses: high risk groups for COVID-19; relying on CDC guidance for the latest information; the importance of handwashing; and the evolving knowledge about the virus. Lastly, Moreau interviews Dr. Jim Richardson, an economist, who discusses the economic impact of the pandemic.
