An oral history interview conducted on August 10, 2017, at the Vietnam Veterans of America Conference in New Orleans, with Joe Pentecost of DeQuincy, Louisiana. Pentecost served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He discusses: his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana; his role as a helicopter crew chief; his participation in Operation Lam Son 719; their recreation time in Vietnam; returning home to war protestors in the airport; Vietnam veterans not being welcome in veterans’ organizations; not telling anyone that he was a veteran for about ten years after the war; and his medical problems due to Agent Orange exposure.
