An oral history interview conducted on October 11, 2017, with Michael McKann of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. McKann, a native of Virginia, worked for the National Security Agency (NSA) during the Vietnam War. He discusses: joining the NSA; his work in purging the dictionary of words used in classified document indexing; his role in developing a document retrieval system for the Situation Room at the White House; filing reports from the Vietnam War; being stationed in Saigon from 1968-1969; his work in monitoring the communications of the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong; his interactions with the Vietnamese people; and his life after the war.
