An oral history interview conducted on December 6, 2017, with Dr. Michael Kuk of Anacoco, Louisiana. Dr. Kuk, a native of Clinton, Iowa, served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He discusses: his training at Fort Polk, Louisiana; his assignment as a firefighter with the Special Troops; the different types of fires they responded to; his scariest fire; his interactions with the Vietnamese people; playing the organ at church services, including the wedding of one of General William Westmoreland’s aides; returning home; facing discrimination as a Vietnam veteran; and their homemade fire tank.
