This segment from the 1997 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Ashley Barton, a student at Grant High School in Dry Prong. As a child, Barton lost her younger sister in a drowning incident and witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of her step-father. Despite these tragedies, Barton is a model citizen and a leader at her school. She has won a Horatio Alger Association Scholarship, is the president of the Student Council, secretary of Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) and was named an outstanding senior by her classmates.
