Description
This segment from the 1997 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Wayne Abney, a student at Slidell High School. Abney has a rare medical condition called Congenital Alveola Hypoventilation Syndrome, which causes his body to stop breathing. Despite this condition, Abney maintains a 3.7 grade point average, represents Easter Seals and is very active in Sick Kids Need Involved People (SKIP) of Louisiana. As an amateur comedian, he also emcees events for Children’s Hospital, the Retarded Citizen’s Association and other causes. Host: Beth Courtney
