Description
This segment from the 2002 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree John Henry Jones of Anacoco, a senior at Evans High School. After being abandoned by his mother and losing his father at age nine, Jones is being raised by his grandmother. Despite having a learning disability, he is a captain on his school’s quiz bowl team and has competed in the Louisiana State Literary Rally. In spite of his own family’s financial problems, he has helped collect coats, non-perishable goods, and school supplies for the less fortunate in his parish. Hosts: Beth Courtney and Robert Rainer
