Description
This segment from the 2003 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Amanda Pittmon, a sixth grade student at Copes Middle School in Bossier City. Pittmon was born with a number of medical problems, including a cleft palette, poor muscle control, and facial defects. She has had over fifty surgeries and suffers from Grand Mal seizures. Despite her physical handicaps, she plays sports, is a member of the Pep Squad, and has won numerous 4-H club awards for her cooking, woodworking, and arts and crafts. She has also raised money for Mission Water for Life, volunteered at the Collection Center for Operation Christmas Child, and created necklaces for Make a Difference Day.
