This segment from the 2006 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Malarie Jenkins, a senior at Franklinton High School. Jenkins was born with Spina Bifida, but has the ability to walk. When her mother became ill during her sophomore year, Jenkins took over many household duties, including caring for her 10-year-old brother and working after school and weekend jobs. Despite these challenges, she was named the Washington Parish Student of the Year, is the president of the senior class, and serves as an officer for several school clubs.
