Description
This segment from the 2009 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Carl Harrison, Jr., a senior at De La Salle High School in New Orleans. Harrison lost his mother at age eight to leukemia and his father at age sixteen to a heart attack. Despite these personal tragedies, he maintains a 3.6 grade point average, is a member of the drama club and National Honor Society, and competes in speech competitions. He also helps to take care of his great-grandmother and younger siblings. He was named the outstanding Parish Youth for Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish and earned a scholarship to Loyola University.
