This segment from the 2011 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Jenna Mitchell, a junior at Slidell High School. Mitchell is battling multiple sclerosis and optic neuritis, a disease that will eventually cause her to go blind. She is already preparing for the day she loses her sight by learning braille and walking blindfolded in order to learn how to use a cane for navigation. Despite her physical difficulties, Mitchell maintains a 3.5 grade point average, tutors her classmates, and volunteers at her local soup kitchen and library.
