This segment from the 2012 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Elijah Evans, an eighth grade student at Youngsville Middle School. As a young child, Evans endured severe child abuse at the hands of his biological mother. Because of his experiences as a foster child, Evans spearheaded a fundraising effort to provide gifts and a party for children in the foster care system. He also volunteered at Camp We Can Do, a camp for children with disabilities in Lafayette Parish.
