Description

Oral history with District 25 Representative and Speaker of the House Charles Dewitt. Conducted on August 24, 2007. In this interview, Dewitt discusses what inspired him to join public office, his early life in Rapides Parish, his career in farming, and some of the trials he faced when he first came into office. He also talks about caucuses in Louisiana politics, his district and the problems they face, and the differences between districts in Louisiana. Dewitt served in the Louisiana House of Representatives for twenty-eight years. This interview is part of a series of interviews conducted with numerous Louisiana legislators being term limited following the 2007 legislative session. Part 1 of 3.
