Description

Hurricane Camille, a WWL-TV Special Project, consists of silent footage before, during, and after Hurricane Camille made landfall on 17 August 1969. Footage includes: boarded houses along Abundance Street in New Orleans; Nick’s Bar; Carolyn Park; nighttime footage of the hurricane; firemen reacting to a house fire at night during the hurricane; Coast Guard Base in New Orleans; evacuations onto a St. Claude to Refinery bus; waves along the UNO Lakefront Arena; a woman cooking for evacuees; people in hurricane shelters; people creating and distributing sandbags; Gertler Headquarters sign on a house; people arriving at Moisant Airport and waiting in the terminal; a Red Cross worker helping people in a shelter; the remains of the Pass Christian Chamber of Commerce; scenes along Hwy 90 after the hurricane; scenes of Nicholson Avenue and Ruhr Street in Waveland, Mississippi; and aerial footage of flooded areas and devastation along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
