Description
This episode of “Gumbo! La! La!” from April 18, 2004, explores Cajun French culture in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. Host Marie-Jo Therio discovers Cajun French heritage through the eyes and life experience of local South Louisiana residents. Marie-Jo speaks with Ronald Gaspard, former military serviceman, oilfield worker, and Vermilion Parish sheriff’s deputy, who also runs a business as a private investigator. They discuss his work as a private investigator and his work in local nursing homes performing oral history work to record the memories of elderly French speaking Louisianians. This program was preserved through a 2022-2023 Public Broadcasting Preservation Fellowship.
