Description
This episode of “Gumbo! La! La!” from April 25, 2004, explores Cajun French culture in the Atchafalaya Basin region of Louisiana. Host Marie-Jo Therio discovers Cajun French heritage through the eyes and life experience of local South Louisiana residents. Marie-Jo speaks with Greg Guirard, a photographer, author, and fisherman who calls the swamps of the Atchafalaya Basin home. They discuss: his life in the Basin; how he uses photography, writing and wood working to create awareness of his heritage; environmental impacts, including the oil industry's effect on water quality and fishing; and Guirard’s effort to plant trees in the Basin.
