This episode of “Gumbo! La! La!” from May 9, 2004, explores Cajun French culture in Moncla, Louisiana, a village within Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. Host Marie-Jo Therio discovers Cajun French heritage through the eyes and life experience of local South Louisiana residents. Marie-Jo speaks with Gerard Dupuy, a local of Moncla, GED instructor at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, Cajun musician, and woodworker. They discuss his work with prison inmates at Angola, his personal identity as an American, Frenchmen and Cajun, and his connection to Cajun music and artistry through nature.
