Description
This episode of “Gumbo! La! La!” from May 16, 2004, explores Cajun French culture in St. Martinville, Louisiana. Host Marie-Jo Therio discovers Cajun French heritage through the eyes and life experience of local South Louisiana residents. Marie-Jo speaks with Jolene Adam, an Acadian historian, whose work began when she discovered the history of her ancestors. They discuss her work with CODOFIL (Council for the Development of French in Louisiana), how she learned to speak traditional French and Cajun French, and her efforts to educate others on the history of the Acadian deportation to the Louisiana Territory. This program was preserved through a 2022-2023 Public Broadcasting Preservation Fellowship.
