Description

This segment from the May 31, 1996, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Arcie Chapa’s report on the reasons why Louisiana struggles to receive federal funding to deal with the state’s coastal erosion problems as compared to the Florida Everglades. She interviews: Mark Davis, Restore Coastal Louisiana; Bill Goode of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources; and Paul Kemp, coastal researcher. Host Robert Collins then conducts an in-studio interview with Secretary Jack Caldwell of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, who discusses the $60 million in federal and state funding allocated for coastal erosion for the 1996-1997 fiscal year, the need to change the formula in the coastal restoration fund, the Christmas tree recycling program, and the planned coastal restoration projects.
