Description

This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from October 25, 1996, features Jeff Duhe reporting on the 1996 United States Senate election between State Representative Woody Jenkins (R) and former State Treasurer Mary Landrieu (D). He first reports on the truth behind the spin of the campaign ads. His report includes: President Bill Clinton campaigning for Landrieu in Lake Charles; United States Senator Bob Dole, the Republican presidential candidate, campaigning for Jenkins in New Orleans; and highlights of the Baton Rouge Press Club forum between Jenkins and Landrieu. He also interviews: Susan Howell, pollster at the University of New Orleans (UNO); Dan Kyle, legislative auditor; and Dr. Jim Richardson, economist and chairman of the Revenue Estimating Conference. Duhe then interviews Dr. Andrew King, the chairman of the LSU Department of Speech Communication, and Dr. Wayne Parent, LSU political science professor. They analyze the candidates’ television ads.
