This extended interview from the November 17, 2023, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Karen LeBlanc’s interview with Richard Lipsey, a Baton Rouge businessman, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Lipsey served as an aide to the General in charge of the Military District of Washington during the Kennedy Administration. He discusses: his work as an aide to the General; finding out about the assassination; his role in guarding the president’s body from the time it arrived at Andrews Air Force Base until it was delivered to the White House; preparing the president’s body for the autopsy; guarding the body during the entire autopsy; helping to load the president’s body into his casket; helping to deliver the casket to the White House; his office’s role in planning the president’s funeral; his memories of President Kennedy; and his perspective on the career and assassination of President Kennedy 60 years later.
