An oral history interview conducted on September 13, 2017, with Robert Schoen, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Schoen, a native of Covington, Louisiana, served as a Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He discusses: his decision to join the Army; his training; his deployment to Vietnam; his assignment to the 117th Aviation Company, an assault helicopter company; their four types of missions; the differences between the North Vietnamese Army and the Viet Cong; a typical day of missions; being in Vietnam during a transition year in the war; his best memory of the war; and the death of his best friend.
